Pakeezah - Rang Barang
Pakeezah (Pure of Heart) was a classic film in many senses, not least of all for its music. Music director Naushad assembled a stellar cast including the light classical vocalist Parween Sultana singing "Kaun Gali" and a team of accompanists including Rais Khan on sitar. Music and screen action were perfectly married. For example, the way he cleverly echoed the train whistle motif of the film into its music. Lata Mangeshkar, Rajkumari and Mohd. Rafi also contribute to the soundtrack of this 1971 cinematic classic -- classic in its truest sense. Pakeezah Rang Barang by Ghulam Mohammed also employs the talents of Lata Mangeshkar and Mohd. Rafi. The actress Meena Kumari recites. The light classical vocalist Shobhu Gurtu sings "Bandhan Bandho" in "Raga Bhopali." An ideal first soundtrack for the newcomer. ~ Ken Hunt, Rovi.
